The Department of Daydreams

The Department of Daydreams is a series of public art installations I am working on in my hometown of Elkins, WV. So far, I have created several temporary versions of immersive installation artworks as a proof-of-concept for this idea. Below is a video of one of these, called Frost.

Frost was on display 2024-2025 inside Mycelium, at 214 Davis Avenue, which is now the back room of Double Knee Vintage. Frost is planned to re-open to the public in summer 2026, concurrently with Dandelion, the next installation in the series, which is planned for the Wilt Building on Davis Ave.

The Vision:

My goal is for The Department of Daydreams to become a walking tour of public art installations, with several locations in downtown Elkins. These semi-permanent installations will be free and publicly accessible during regular business hours, connected by an illustrated walking map. I have applied for funding to bring this dream to reality, and am planning to start creating the first new permanent location of the Department of Daydreams in 2026. The first new location will be located at the Wilt Building, in a small space that was once an old newsstand. You can follow along with this project at @department_of_daydreams on instagram.

Past Iterations:

The Department of Daydreams began as a series of temporary seasonal immersive exhibits in the back room of a local shop. Here are a few images of past installations.
